Reflective Cover Letter:
I changed my idea for this paper, to something I felt a little bit better writing about. For my first major paper, I mainly was trying to get across that the idea of a five paragraph essay is something that needs to be addressed and changed before entering college, so that students will be better prepared when it comes to their writing. By using background knowledge, personal experiences and examples of what experts in the English field had to say about this rule, I backed up my claims to show that students should not be limited to writing just five paragraphs in an essay. I also used an example of someone who was for the idea of using it and showed how it would not be beneficial to students with their writing. I think I get the basic idea of what I'm attempting to say, but I could've possibly done a study with other students to ask their opinions on this topic to help back up my research. I want the readers to relate to a time when they felt limited with their writing, and they just wanted to keep going on, but simply could not, and how it impacted them. Next time around, I will get a little more background evidence to help support my claim, and do a personal study to help show that my claim can be true.
The main point of this paper was that the "five paragraph essay" that we have all been taught to use while writing because it is the 'best' way to go about doing so, isn't truly the best way. The best way is to allow ourselves to write as many words and make as many paragraphs and points as we need to to get our point across and to fully express what we need to say. He says that teachers, although trying to help, are actually hurting our writing ability by teaching us such a format for writing.
ReplyDeleteThis paper was very easy to read and relate to. I too have had papers where I have been limited by this five paragraph structure. I think this paper meets the requirements of the assignment quite well. I would only work on adding a little more to your background of the construct and your conclusion. I really like how you informed the reader of how many paragraphs you were using, it made me laugh. I think you just need to go back over the paper and look at the places where I highlighted yellow because most of those had weird wording which made it difficult to understand what you were trying to say. I also think you need to expand your reasons a little more, it almost seemed like you kept repeating the same thing as to why this form of writing is bad. Overall, I truly enjoyed reading your paper and agree with you completely!
